Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit at Sweetland 3.31.17

/

4.1.17  This is no April Fools joke, last night’s show was one of my favorites. We at The Southern Rambler have been to many the past few years, including Cayamo. The Sweetland Amphitheatre at Boyd Park, in La Grange GA, is a beautiful and social outdoor venue. Jason Isbell fans came in from all over the south for this show and they did not leave disappointed.  The opening band, Hiss Golden Messenger, created an appropriate mood for the evening.  Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit jumped right in with Stockholm and the set just built from there. During Traveling Alone, there was a marriage proposal in the grass.  As Jason went into the chorus, Scooter took a knee in front of Carmie with family surrounding them.  It was the couple’s first Jason Isbell concert and one that they will cherish forever.  The rest of the night went by too fast. Jason told many stories in between songs and we heard “Hope the High Road” from the new CD The Nashville Sound to be released in mid-June. We can’t wait for this CD and we hope to catch him when he returns to the Shoals later in the summer.
